Flower Power at Keukenhof anniversary opening

Lisse, 19 March 2019. The 70th edition of Keukenhof was opened today.
The official opening ceremony was performed by Pieter Elbers, CEO of KLM, thereby emphasising Keukenhof’s importance to the tourist industry.
Keukenhof 2019’s theme is Flower Power. The park is already flowering beautifully and will be open to the public from Thursday onwards.

Flower Power, the strength of flowers
Flower Power is Keukenhof’s 2019 theme. Flowers inspire. At Keukenhof flowers connect people from across the globe who come together to enjoy the tulips, smells and colours. The Netherlands is famous for its bulb fields and the many flowers cultivated there. Bright colours, hippies, peace & music. Flower Power has that early 1970s vibe. A great theme for celebrating the 70th Keukenhof.

The Flower Power flower mosaic consists of some 50,000 bulbs planted in two layers. It is flowering profusely and guarantees great photographs and selfies. Furthermore, the flower shows at the Oranje Nassau Paviljoen are entirely dedicated to flower power as are the inspirational gardens.
Pieter Elbers, CEO of KLM, fulfilled an important role during the opening ceremony. The musical accompaniment was entirely aligned with the flower power theme. Patricia van Haastrecht and Hans van Heiningen sang ‘Aquarius’ and Karin Bloemen sang a medley as a taster of the Keukenhof Spring Concert. The event concluded with a dance recital by Total Move.

Keukenhof is open to the general public from thursday. By the time it closes on 19 May 2019, the flower exhibition will have received over 1 million visitors from across the globe.
