An official naming ceremony took place in Keukenhof today. On Monday, April 4, H.E. mr. Ram Nath Kovind, President of India, and his wife mrs. Savita Kovind named tulip ‘Maitri’. Minister of Foreign Affairs Wopke Hoekstra was also present at the name giving ceremony.
President Kovind, who is in the Netherlands for an official state visit, finds it is his pleasure to be in the Netherlands. “I am making this state visit on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries. Today, a new flower will bloom for India-Netherlands relations. We are naming the tulip ‘Maitri’ which in Sanskrit language means friendship. It will inspire us to work towards strengthening bonds of friendship and ties between people of India and the Netherlands”.
The yellow tulip was made available by the company Jan de Wit en Zonen BV from Bovenkarspel.
